Update, plane is finished, Total build time was 59 hrs. Maiden tomorrow?
Hopefully, more pictures to follow then
Here’s the start as the fuselage comes together
orange coming later
Right wing panel, just collecting the parts at this point. Later I’ll get the lower spars in place and then the build will really move along
Right wing panel, I like to mark the spars both panels the same with the outer rib location. Then I work my way towards the root with the shear webs.
If all the shear webs are the same width, then voila a nice panel which will match the other side 🙂
Shaping up to be a nice wing
It better be straight, easy on a board, now what about with the polyhedral!
Diagonal braces, once I’m setup a cut a few of these .
The Elio needs 30, and there’s enough in the pile for at least another wing
Left outer panel, diagonal braces 3/32 x 3/16 high
Upper spar in place as well as the leading edge, it will be off the board next so I can add the tip block
Right wing, diagonal braces in place
Top spar in place on right inner panel
Inner wing panels jigged and set to tack glue the wing rod tubes
Trailing edge in place on one of the outboard panels
Canopy coming together and trial fit
Rear fuse deck in place
Wing rod tube closed in and last three ribs in place, right inner panel
Left inner panel, spoiler sub-spar also in place
Right wing panel, jigged and glued together
Part of the jig, machinist squares clamps and a 4 ft level
Left wing panel
right wing panel, rest of diagonals in place as well as rib at polyhedral break
Inboard panel leading edge sheeting
1/8 ply forward fuse bottom
Right tip panel
Top panel top sheeting
Hatch frame takes shape
Both wings upper leading edge sheeting in place
Fin and fin to fuse filler in place
Underside of spoiler servo access hatch. A few pieces get added
Adding the top rear sheeting. This tends to get a little tine consuming as at this point the pieces have to fit between the LE sheeting and the trailing edge
and another all pinned down
Looking good
Eli Orange meets it’s older brother
Just had to stick things together. My final job for the day :):)
Stab set , sanded and ready to cover
Ply root ribbed gets added to the left wing panel
2nd coat of paint on the fuselage
2 sets of spoiler horns
Priceless
Servo rails , HS 82 MG’s added later
Spoiler servo section, standard servo will fit well here
A splash of paint , 3rd coat
Stabs in place, and stab pin glued
Canopy gets a splash of yellow.
Stabs covered, white with a touch of orange
All painted
Tail surfaces, and a little flair on the rudder
Underside of the right wing, visibility I hope so.
top side right wing
Spoiler left wing
Underside of the other wing, lets launch this plane 🙂 🙂
