Talking about Records
I got a good ride yesterday with the Supra 30 minutes and a bit. I wasn’t sure whether that was the longest flight I’ve had
So I went back thru the records and found this
From my notes last September and I see on Sept 26th I flew my scratch built BoT for 37 minutes.. I never really liked the looks of those when I was younger, and previously had a couple BoT Arfs’s one of which I understand is in storage somewhere in Halifax, in the summer at that..:):)
Needless to say Dave Thornburg new what he was doing with these and they fly wonderful.
It’s a true test of endurance keeping a plane up that long with one launch.
Some of the hindrances are:
1 Flies, If it’s not black flies or mosquitos, there’s the venerable horse fly or moosefly
2 Thirst If your there by yourself , take something to drink and have it handy
3 sweat, I find I get sweaty above the skin of my upper eyelid, and eventually that stings my eyes
4 distractions, whatever they seem to crop up, even a rubber band in my case, which once resulted in me loosing my 1st BoT Arf
So,
Turns out after searching back, that happens to be my longest flight with a sailplane, with no motor in the nose.
Here’s the build log
Build a BoT someday, the kits are cheap enough though the wood I hear is not the best, If your going for light, or let me know if you wanna give a scratched BoT a try.
