What a Great Morning, woke up to frost every where and nearby in Debert the temperature was reported to be 32 Deg F, a tad chilly.<\/p>\n

Andrew arrived shortly after 10 packing his new andRE<\/strong>aS, <\/strong>as well as the rest of his kit. His new 2 M RES model resplendent in red and yellow Ultrakote transparent covering. The fuse was all white, and the model reportedly weighed in at 530 G or so without the tow hook.<\/p>\n

It hadn’t flown yet and for this time of year we apparently had a great day for flying, sunny, next to\u00a0 no breeze and the grass was drying up.<\/p>\n

I fussed a bit over the covering job, and how I work some ironing details and then we got down to the work at hand.<\/p>\n

I wanted to check the balance and the tow hook needed to be added. I determined a 7G stick-on would be added to the battery up front, and drilled a hole for the 3 MM towhook. The fuse bottom was a tad thick for two nuts, but a t-nut on the inside worked. The fuse bottom was a bit soft to take the compression of tightening the tow hook, but a piece of ply could be fitted in later.<\/p>\n

That was it all set we would give the plane a few hand tosses and then run it up on the spanking new hi start, 15 meters of nice new yellow rubber and 100M of line.<\/p>\n

At the field now, just a short hop on the EZ GO\"P1170464\", and in no time at all the andREaS was aloft, I tossed it and Andrew was on the sticks and it sailed nice and nimble and we made a few circles over the field.<\/p>\n

There was no reason not to run out the hi start tie it down and launch up the line.\u00a0 I walked the rubber north onto the field , perhaps 600 ft away and anchored it. One of the swivels\/clips and the flag still needed to be tied to the end and we were set.<\/p>\n

Walking south I got to a point where I thought the tension was good , Andrew was standing at the wheel and off it went. Near vertical I suppose and straight up. The room under the wing is limited to hold at launch but can be done or held in front of the wing also works. We were launching with a light breeze perhaps 5 MPH 90 Deg to the line from the west. The plane swung\u00a0 slightly to the east on Launch nothing unpredictable at all.<\/p>\n

The hunt was on, soon we had the andREaS in it’s element getting used to it’s flying characteristics. At some point we added more rudder and removed the 7 G of lead we added earlier in the day. The elevator was sensitive, and Andrew was considering adding some expo. I don’t believe he did though and just got used to it.<\/p>\n

After a few strolls across the field retrieving the line and plane Andrew found himself warmed up enough to remove his jacket, perhaps it was already 60 Deg , It was sure warming up, and at times there was a light breeze tuning from the West.<\/p>\n

Moving air is thermals right:)<\/p>\n

Spoilers where tuned to the left stick, forward stowed and back fully open and up 90 Degrees I’m sure, and remember they are active not switched.\u00a0 These are\u00a0 show stoppers, I mean flight stopper ,\u00a0\u00a0 right \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 Turns out upon discussion, the elevator has down mixed in when the spoilers are deployed as well<\/p>\n

Andrew knows I like to fly rudder left stick, and that worked well.<\/p>\n

Soon the log was filling with repeated Launches , Landings and 2 to 4 minute flights and lots of them. We were searching , probing for the spot to get us out.<\/p>\n

This was fun the plane could be tossed around nicely and turned onto final and landed in a small area. I even popped the spoilers on one landing at about 5 feet to see how they worked.<\/p>\n

Couldn’t find anything to complain about and soon a Hawk was headed across the field, seagulls were spotted on occasion a ways up there but the eagles weren’t visible\u00a0 either we needed to get up higher or look elsewhere for them after all, two\u00a0 flew thru 6:30 this morning<\/p>\n

Soon the flag and windsock were turning more towards us giving noticeably better Launches this was the Magic and Andrew was out and gone on his next Launch. I saw that as he went up and took myself a seat.<\/p>\n

Landed here 800 ft away behind the Grassy Knoll, between the power line and the road this side of the row of trees ,couldn’t see the plane hit the ground and heard nothing<\/p><\/div>\n

Some ten minutes later Andrew gave me the transmitter and I had plans to fly the plane west look for thermals and get up higher, I could feel it 3 clicks of down trim and I was headed west . Soon it appeared the plane was coming down, whatever I did I couldn’t get it level no matter what I tried something was not right, I even took out the down trim I had just added but yet that was no help, It seemed I had Radio contact but this plane was out of control. Soon I was near the ground and it landed with me holding the right stick all the way back and the left stick in the middle. LoL<\/p>\n

It was now apparent the spoilers were open, and they helped bring it down, remember active spoilers left stick \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Looked like it was in the field though, not in another county and we should have it within the minute.\u00a0 Andrew confirmed my thoughts that it went behind the berm but on this side of the row of trees. We clambered onto the EZ GO and made the trek over.<\/p>\n

From a distance we could see the wing tips were up the rudder was up, and the fuse was below the grass. Wow, could it be an unbelievably great landing that we couldn’t see.<\/p>\n

It sure was , my lucky day landed between the power line road and trees in the soft grass . I did ruin a nice long flight though<\/p>\n

We took a short break after that, had a couple yummy cookies Andrew brought with him and returned later for some more Launches.<\/p>\n

Soon it was 3 or so in the afternoon, we’d just spent 4 hrs like a couple kids chasing a lightweight 2 M plane around the field.<\/p>\n

This sure reminded me of my 1st Sailplane some 40 years ago, and as a wide eyed teenager\u00a0 my Amigo II\u00a0 flew 1000 ft across a field and road and crashing into a tree.<\/p>\n
